Vlaamse illustratoren verzameld

De Vlaamse Illustratoren Club, kortweg de VIC, is een initiatief dat van de versnipperde illustratorenkaart in Vlaanderen een groep wil maken. Een club die fungeert als kruispunt, als informatiecentrum, en als denktank.
Elk jaar komen er nieuwe jonge Vlaamse Meesters (M/V met talent) bij. Het professionalisme in de kunstopleidingen neemt toe. Willen we als vakgroep echt een voet aan de grond hebben binnen de uitgeverswereld, dan moeten we ons doeltreffend organiseren en informeren om een gerespecteerd en werkzaam profiel voor de beroepsillustrator te creëren. Daarom is VIC in de eerste plaats een stem, een identiteit voor iedereen die met ons wil samenwerken.

De VIC heeft als doel:

• een efficientere communicatie op gang te brengen, enerzijds tussen de illustratoren onderling en anderzijds tussen de illustratoren en alle externe partners (bv. uitgevers en media).
• ervaringen, informatie en advies uit te wisselen en te verspreiden (bv. gestimuleerd door de VIC sluiten de meeste illustratoren zich aan bij een auteursvereniging en maken zij op die manier aanspraak op hun reprografie- en leenrechtvergoedingen).
• met diverse (creatieve) initiatieven naar buiten te komen en aldus de kunst van het illustreren, via gevestigd en aankomend talent, de publieke aandacht te geven die het verdient.

Een kern van 10 illustratoren en enthousiaste externen hebben zich tot op heden vrijwillig geëngageerd bij dit initiatief. Zij bepalen en organiseren alle ideeën die onze doelstellingen kunnen realiseren:

• in 2000 werd de eerste editie van de VICtoriale georganiseerd: om de vereniging financiële armslag te geven, stonden 54 illustratoren elk twee originele werken af voor een overzichtstentoonstelling gekoppeld aan een voor het eerst georganiseerde veiling (i.s.m. Veilinghuis Mon Bernaerts in Antwerpen) van originele illustraties. Bij deze gelegenheid werd een catalogus gepubliceerd. Een unieke uitgave die een overzichtelijke staalkaart van het Vlaams illustratietalent presenteert.
• i.s.m. met de auteursvereniging SOFAM werd in 2001 een infoavond over auteursrechten georganiseerd.
• uitgenodigd door het Vlaamse Fonds voor de Letteren werden de illustratoren door de VIC vertegenwoordigd bij de vergaderingen over de totstandkoming van de Koepelvereniging van Vlaamse Auteursverenigingen (KVA) in 2001.
• i.s.m. met Boek.be werden de catalogi van de 1e VICtoriale de voorbije jaren gepresenteerd en verdeeld op de Boekenbeurs van Bologna.
• sinds enkele jaren worden regelmatig nieuwsberichten en belangrijke inlichtingen, relevant voor illustratoren en kunstenaars, rondgestuurd via e-mail.
• in 2003 werd in de stad Ronse het eerst officiële en enige illustratorenfestival in Vlaanderen Illustrale 2003 opgestart. Deze biënnale vindt opnieuw plaats in 2005 onder de nieuwe naam Picturale 2005. Als officiële vertegenwoordiging verleent de VIC zijn volle medewerking aan dit festival en werd een partnership tot stand gebracht.
• in het kader van het cultuurfestival het Groot Beschrijf in Brussel werd eind april 2004 in het cultureel centrum De Markten een groepstentoonstelling gehouden onder de titel PAUZE.
• i.s.m. productiehuis VroumVroum leverden meer dan 30 illustratoren hun bijdrage aan een animatieonderdeel van het tv-kleuterprogramma Hocus-Pocus
• op uitnodiging van het Vlaamse Fonds voor de Letteren werden de illustratoren door de VIC vertegenwoordigd op de infodag over auteursrechten, op de Boekenbeurs 2004.
• met de website www.vlaamse-illustratoren.com/www.flemish-illustrators.com werd één van onze belangrijkste doelstellingen gerealiseerd. Als mondiaal communicatiemiddel zijn de toepassingen legio en oneindig, en tegelijk wordt op overzichtelijke, gebundelde wijze het Vlaamse illustratietalent wereldwijd gepresenteerd. Meer dan zomaar een databank, moet deze site uitgroeien tot een interactieve en dynamische afspiegeling van de levendige illustratorenwereld in Vlaanderen en daarbuiten. Door regelmatige updates en uitbreidingen moet ze inhoud, inzicht en visie verschaffen.

Flemish Illustrators United

VIC, the Vlaamse Illustratoren Club (Flemish Illustrators Club), is an initiative that aims at assembling into one group the fragmented community of illustrators in Flanders. The club acts as a crossroads, an information centre and a think tank.
The number of new young Flemish Masters (talented men and women) is growing every year. Indeed, professionalism in art schools is still increasing.
For us, as an interest group, it is important to gain a firm foothold within the world of publishing. We therefore need an efficient organisation acting as an information line in order to create a respected and active profile of the professional illustrator. That's why, in the first place, VIC is meant to be a voice, an identity for anyone willing to join forces with us.

VIC's objective is

• to promote a more efficient communication between the illustrators among themselves on the one hand and between the illustrators and all external partners (such as publishers and media) on the other hand.
• to exchange and spread experiences, information and advice. Encouraged by VIC, for instance, most illustrators join an authors association. By doing so, they can claim reprography rights and lending fees.
• to develop several (creative) initiatives allowing to give the art of illustrating its well-deserved public attention via established as well as young talent.

Up to now, this initiative is supported on a voluntary base by a core group of 10 illustrators and enthusiastic external people. Together, they determine and implement all ideas that can support and realise our targets:

• in 2000 we organised the 1st edition of the VICtoriale. With the purpose of promoting the financial scope of the association, 54 illustrators donated (each of them) two original works for an overview exhibition linked with the first public sale ever of original illustrations, in co-operation with Veilinghuis (auctioning firm) Mon Bernaerts in Antwerp. An auction catalogue was published on this occasion. This unique publication offers an easy-reference sampling of Flemish illustration talent.
• in 2001 we organised an info evening on copyright protection in co-operation with the SOFAM authors association.
• at the invitation of the Vlaams Fonds voor de Letteren (Flemish Foundation for Literature), VIC represented the illustrators during the meetings dealing with the establishment of the umbrella organisation of Flemish authors associations in 2001.
• in co-operation with Boek.be, the catalogues of the 1st VICtoriale have in recent years been presented and distributed at the Bologna Book Fair.
• for a few years now, important information and news bulletins that are relevant to illustrators and artists are regularly sent out by e-mail.
• in 2003, Illustrale 2003, the first official and unique festival of illustrators, was set up in the city of Ronse. This Biennale is going to take place again in 2005, under the new name of Picturale 2005. As an official representative, VIC entered into a partnership with Picturale 2005 in order to render its complete assistance to this event.
• within the framework of the Brussels cultural festival Het Groot Beschrijf (The Full Description), a group exhibition called PAUZE was held at the end of April 2004 in the cultural centre De Markten (The Marketplace).
• in co-operation with the production company Vroum Vroum, more than 30 illustrators made their contribution to an animated cartoon for Hocus-Pocus, a TV programme for small children.
• at the invitation of the Flemish Foundation for Literature, VIC represented the illustrators during the information day on copyright protection at the 2004 Book Fair in Antwerp.
• one of our major aims was achieved by the creation of the website www.vlaamse-illustratoren.com/www.flemish-illustrators.com. This world-wide communication tool offers a never-ending number of applications, presenting at the same time a combined overview of Flemish illustration talent to the rest of the world. Being more than just a database, this site is meant to grow into an interactive and dynamic reflection of the vivid world of illustrators inside as well as outside Flanders. Regular updates and extensions will allow it to provide the visitor with content, insight and vision.

Illustrateurs flamands rassemblés

Le Vlaamse Illustratoren Club (VIC) est une initiative visant à réunir les illustrateurs éparpillés partout en Flandre, dans le but de constituer un véritable groupe : un " club ", faisant fonction de carrefour, de centre d'information et de réflexion.
Chaque année voit arriver son lot de nouveaux jeunes Maîtres Flamands (M/F munis de talent). Dans les formations à caractère artistique, le professionnalisme va en grandissant. Si nous voulons avoir voix au chapitre dans le monde de l'édition en tant qu'association de professionnels, nous sommes obligés de nous organiser et de bien nous informer, créant ainsi un profil réaliste de l'illustrateur professionnel, dans le but de se faire respecter. En ce sens, le VIC représente surtout une voix, une identité pour tous ceux qui désirent collaborer avec nous.

Les objectifs du VIC sont les suivants

• provoquer une communication plus efficace, tant entre les illustrateurs entre eux qu'entre les illustrateurs et leurs partenaires externes (par exemple les éditeurs et les médias),
• échanger et diffuser des expériences, des infos et des " tuyaux " (par exemple : grâce au VIC, la plupart des illustrateurs adhèrent à une association d'auteurs et par ce biais, ils perçoivent les droits de réprographie et de prêt auxquels ils ont droit),
• donner à l'art de l'illustration l'attention publique à laquelle il a droit, en divulgant diverses initiatives créatives de talents neufs (et moins neufs).

Jusqu'à présent, au sein du VIC, un noyau dur d'une dizaine d'illustrateurs et d'intéressés bénévoles se sont engagés avec enthousiasme dans cette initiative. Ce sont eux qui fixent et organisent les idées susceptibles de réaliser nos objectifs:

• En 2000 a eu lieu la première édition de la VICtoriale : afin de procurer une injection financière à notre association, 54 illustrateurs ont fait don de deux de leurs ouvrages originaux pour une exposition, suivie d'une première vente aux enchères d'illustrations originales (en collaboration avec Veilinghuis Mon Bernaerts d'Anvers, Belgique). A cette occasion a été publié un catalogue, édition unique faisant office d'échantillon représentatif du talent illustratif flamand.
• En collaboration avec la SOFAM, une association d'auteurs, le VIC a organisé une soirée d'information concernant les droits d'auteur.
• En 2001, le VIC, en tant que délégué des illustrateurs, a participé aux négociations visant la création d'un organisme de coordination chapeautant les associations d'auteurs flamands. Il y avait été invité par le Vlaams Fonds voor de Letteren.
• En collaboration avec Boek.be, qui regroupe les éditeurs flamands, le catalogue de la première VICtoriale a été présenté et divulgué à la Foire du livre de Bologne.
• Depuis quelque temps, une lettre électronique est envoyée aux illustrateurs et aux artistes. Elle contient bon nombre d'informations utiles.
• En 2003, la ville de Renaix (Ronse, Belgique) a fondé le premier - et jusqu'au présent le seul - festival officiel de l'illustration en Flandre, l'Illustrale 2003. Cette bienale aura à nouveau lieu en 2005 sous le nom de Picturale 2005. En tant que représentant officiel, le VIC apporte son entière collaboration à ce festival. Un partenariat a été réalisé entre les deux parties.
• En avril 2004, dans le cadre du festival culturel Het Groot Beschrijf à Bruxelles, une exposition en groupe intitulée PAUZE a eu lieu au centre culturel De Markten.
• Plus de 30 illustrateurs ont participé à un programme sur Ketnet (la chaîne télévisée flamande pour enfants) à l'attention des tous petits, intitulé Hocus-Pocus. Ce programme a été créé par la maison de production Vroum Vroum.
• Invité par le Vlaams Fonds voor de Letteren, le VIC a représenté les illustrateurs à la journée d'information concernant les droits d'auteur à la Foire du livre d'Anvers.
• Grâce à ce site www.vlaamse-illustratoren.com/www.flemish-illustrators.com, un de nos objectifs principaux a été réalisé. En effet, les applications de ce moyen de communication à échelle planétaire sont infinies. Qui plus est, par ce biais, le talent illustratif flamand est regroupé et présenté de façon ordonnée pour qui désire en prendre connaissance. Ce site, qui se veut plus qu'une simple banque de données, a pour objectif d'être un dynamique échantillon représentatif du monde illustratif en Flandre et bien en dehors de là. Grâce aux mises à jour de ce site en pleine expansion, le VIC désire procurer du contenu, des savoirs et une vision des choses.
